Get Your Own Milkcrates Made

I’ve been asked over and over about how it’s legal/illegal or ethically/socially acceptable to steal/borrow milkcrates for personal use. This is an age old debate – but if you’d rather take the high road, hit up Farmplast in Fairfield, New Jersey and have them make some milkcrates just for you. I’ve explored this before, believe me and most companies (aside from thinking that I was insane) only do truckloads of milkcrates per order. These guys are willing to do small orders. So, go and be “legal” – buy milkcrates. Me, I think I’ll just keep on keepin’ on.

Got Crates?

I was already an NBA fan, and this one sealed the deal. I’ve had this scan of a “Got Milk?” ad featuring Avery Johnson (then coach of the Dallas Mavericks and Josh Howard (then player of the Dallas Mavericks ) from EPSN Magazine for some time–I have no idea why I never posted it.

Best Milk Crate?!?

I just spotted this new web site with the bold name “Best Milk Crate”. Sounds awesome, but sadly it’s not. They are simply pulling everything that web stores call a milkcrate and posting a link back to that store to gain some kind of monetary reward. If the so-called crates were for real I’d be way more supportive. Most of the storage containers are not milk crates and never will be. Check it out for yourself –> Best Milk Crate

What if your new bike came with a crate?

Bowerly Lane Bikes understands the need and desire for storage on your two-wheeled peddaler. Instead of giving you some zip ties and wishing you good luck, they’ve gone out of their way to provide a vintage-styled, wooden crate. It’s not technically a milkcrate, but we all know where the inspiration came from. –> Bowery Lane Bicycles: Handmade in NYC via Re-Nest

I’m not really sure why, but I stumbled onto this Design Sponge post from 2004 and found this sweet little crate stool with integrated felt cushion. The internet is forever (or at least back to 2004). –> disappointment design: firstop 2004 via Design Sponge

All you need is a six gallon milkcrate, an inner tube, standard lumber and a motor. If you haven’t heard, the entire history of Popular Mechanics is available online now, check it out. –> Popular Mechanics, February 1984 with milkcrates

crate_puppies

Laura Hughes (below) saved 9 puppies in a miraculous effort by balancing a milkcrate filled with nine Rottwieler puppies while swimming ashore after her boat capsized. Two other dogs swam on their own and their were no casualties. Thank goodness she kept a milkcrate on board! Also, this is an amazing headline. –> British sailing woman swam ashore with puppies on head via Telegraph.uk
