I’ve heard the marketing mumbo jumbo, and now my eyes have seen the truth. Nike has actually put the phase,”Milk Crate Technology” on the sole of the LeBron James soldier II sneaker. Supposedly, this colorway will be the 2nd released this Summer. –> thanks to NikeLeBron.net for the great pics. Related Posts: More Milkcrate Inspired Technology…, “Milkcrate Technology” by Nike

Milkcrate construction is one of my favorite subjects. This tower was built (and sadly was only up for about 6 months) at the Yorkshire, England in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. From the press release: “German artists Winter/Hörbelt were commissioned by Arts Council England, Yorkshire to create Cratehouse for Castleford, a beautiful, light-filled structure constructed from shipping containers and bottle crates.” I love stuff like this, and it inspires me to do more building. –> Cratehouse at Castleford press release from September 18th, 2006

The Nike people keep on bringing the LeBron milkcrate technology to the fore. The 2nd version of the LeBron Soldier 2 shoe shows even more milkcrate inspired details than the first (which I posted in December 2007) –> thanks to NikeLeBron.net & KixandtheCity.com for the great pics.

LeBron II

Finally someone owns up to it. LeBron James grew up on Hickory Street. On this street he played basketball on a milkcrate. The new LeBrons pay homage to that crate with what Nike calls (I’m not making this up) “milkcrate technology”! View more pics here.

Crate-tech

Crate tech

Australia continues to be on the bleeding edge of milkcrate lifestyle. The Design Computing and Architecture disciplines at the University of Sydney (wow that’s a big name) just sent over this project – “petro cow project” – that they are undertaking. A merging of sociology, architecture, and milkcrates – what could be sweeter.

Crate Quinn

Crate Quinn

I don’t know if you’ve been playing Quinn or not, but I made some milkcrate style graphics for it. Download here. Just drag and drop into the quinn window and then you can play milkcrate style. Quinn got crushed by those fools who own the rights to Tetris. But you can still find it online, it’s free.

UPDATE – Quinn is now legally available again! Thank goodness. Get it here–>Quinn

Austrailia is pushing the milkcrate lifestyle forward. From designer Stefan Lie, comes the milkcrate lounge chair. 20 milkcrates and some twist ties, and you are on your way. I need to get to Austrailia soon.
