Best Milk Crate?!?

I just spotted this new web site with the bold name “Best Milk Crate”. Sounds awesome, but sadly it’s not. They are simply pulling everything that web stores call a milkcrate and posting a link back to that store to gain some kind of monetary reward. If the so-called crates were for real I’d be way more supportive. Most of the storage containers are not milk crates and never will be. Check it out for yourself –> Best Milk Crate

Crate Bike Storage & A Seat In One

Yael Linveh, a design student in Israel, created this sweet combo milkcrate storage rack & seat for a bicycle. Anything that transforms & uses milkcrates get double bonus points here. He calls it “Two-Go” and his design is build from “off the shelf” parts so anyone can make one for themselves. Two-Go by Yael Linveh via DesignBoom

Michael Cera & Ellen Page love Milkcrates

See how much Ellen Page & Michael Cera are having with that milkcrate stool. It must be great having all the money in the world and having the self-awareness to choose a solid milk crate based stool. These kids today, gotta love em.

WD-40 Recognizes the Milkcrate

Ok, WD-40 isn’t just recognizing milkcrates–they are also celebrating their 40th anniversary. But they do have milkcrates in the ads, which I like. I don’t wanna get nit picky but I have to mention that the milkcrate has changed over 40 years. Details…I’ll let it go. Milkcrates in any national campaign is all good to me. –> WD-40 Celebrates Old-Age with 1950s-Style Can via Wired’s Gadget Lab

Mike Farruggia’s Milk Crate Chairs

Mr. Farruggia emailed photos of his awesome new milk crate chairs. I know how hard this is to pull off, so I take my hat off to him. Someday soon at MilkcrateFurniture.com (not currently live) you will be able to buy these bad boys.

Milkcrate Athletics & Nike in Lawsuit Over Something Neither Own

Aaron LaCrate and his brand of Milkcrate Athletics is suing Nike for recent usage of milkcrates, related images and words on a series of recent LeBron James apparel and footwear. They claim that Nike is confusing the public and using their brand properties. I’ve been putting milkcrates on t-shirts since 1997 (see one below) so I don’t know how someone could own that idea, but Milkcrate Athletics is going for it with this lawsuit. I don’t see any confusion of brand infringement, but we’ll let the courts work it out.

It’s my opinion that no one owns the milkcrate image. It’s like saying you own the letter “F”. Milkcrates are in the public domain and no one can lay claim to it. I am a supporter of artist’s rights and I’m the first person to call foul when artists get ripped off (see You Though We Wouldn’t Notice) but this just seems a bit silly. Canibal M&Ms with Milkcrates

Way back in 1999 M&Ms ran this great commercial with M&Ms eating M&Ms. It’s a pretty great ad, and to make it even better–they are sitting on milkcrates. It also features “Puddy” from Seinfeld. –> M&Ms Commercial, “You don’t eat your own kind”
